Michael J. Richards
President
 Michael J. Richards, M.D., is a physician and businessman with a track record for innovation and building successful companies and ventures.
After practicing medicine as a specialist in internal medicine for nearly two decades, he led the formation and operation of statewide medical practice networks-Integra Health (Iowa Health Physicians), Iowa Physicians Clinic and Central Iowa Clinics Management Company. Dr. Richards served as president and CEO of Integra Health from 1988 until 1998. He served as chairman of the board in 1999.
While leading Integra, he also held the position of Chief Medical Officer for Iowa Health Systems from 1997 to 1999, and his responsibilities included oversight of 46 clinics with 62 locations in Iowa. Managing 460 physicians and more than 1,600 employees, Dr. Richards led the division to generate more than $100 million in annual revenue.
Dr. Richards also took a leading role in health insurance and managed care, serving as president of HMO Iowa from 1985 to 1993 and Healthcare Preferred from 1983 to 1993.
In 1999, Dr. Richards joined Kirke Financial Services, L.L.C., and spearheaded the acquisition of MEDTEC, a company that develops, markets and distributes the enabling technology and positioning components used in radiation therapy. Dr. Richards served as chairman of the board and played a strategic role in the management of the company as it expanded into new markets, business lines and technologies. Under his watch, the company's sales increased four-fold, employment doubled and operations were started in China. The company also successfully spun off a carbon fiber composite manufacturing company, Tec Industries.
Dr. Richards plays an integral role in evaluating and overseeing Kirke Financial's investments and acquisitions. As president of Wild Rose Entertainment, L.L.C., he is responsible for strategic decisions, financial performance and management oversight. |
